Facies analysis is a central part of paleontological and sedimentological research. Once the central part of research in oil exploration it now benefits from the newly gained importance of biogeology and computer simulation. Both fields needs the integration of various methods for the understanding of processes. Thus the importance of this field will increase in the future.
